Nothing is more special than the union of two people, and a wedding can be the inspiration behind a couple starting to take up scrapbooking as a hobby. Wedding scrapbooking ensures that the day of joy and celebration lives on not only in the mental imagery but also on a more physical plane. A couple can bond through reminiscing on the feelings and events of their wedding, and can be captured through wedding scrapbooking.

Wedding Scrapbooking is More Than Just Memories

It is clear that as time goes by so does the memory of events in our lives. The wedding scrapbook can be worked on as a present to oneself in the future. It is a fairytale event that needs to be told so as to preserve its timeless essence. The crucial thing to remember when embarking on this journey of wedding scrapbooking is that you need to work on a lovely layout.

This will ensure that you have a firm foundation upon which the wedding pictures will be showcased. With all the software available this task will not be so hard, and it is like working on the wedding itself, only afterwards. Wedding scrapbooking is more than just putting pictures into a fancy book. It is a story of its own power that can be retold with the visuals provided, and in the end you could use your wedding scrapbook for your children to see and experience the beginnings to their past. It is a passionate journey that promises a whole lot of adventure and many tears shared.

Get Help for Your Wedding Scrapbooking Project

You do not have to feel alone and overwhelmed with your wedding scrapbooking project. There is a whole lot of help to be found so that you get the right steps in making your wedding scrapbooking project a reality. You can often go to search engines and find out how to tackle the project and get some great advice.

Otherwise you can purchase a wedding scrapbooking guide that will help answer all your questions and give you the foundation that you so seek. Remember whichever way you go about finding the information you will need to know this: When you read something you must ask yourself how do you intend to use the information provided. It makes no sense for you to just spend money on a wedding scrapbooking guide and then leave it to gather dust. That is not practical at all.

Scissors

With the advent of scrapbook arts and crafts, several scrapbooking tools have been manufactured and offered by different companies. One of the most basic tools is a pair of edge design scissors that create decorative borders.

By starting with this one scrapbooking tool, a new scrapper can experiment with different styles and borders by using the scissors to decorate some or all of the pages. Because there are dozens of styles and sizes, it really doesn’t matter which scrapbooking tool or scissors the scrapper chooses to purchase or borrow.

Many scrapbooking specialty stores provide table areas and tools for customers to use in the shop. By spending time using a scrapbooking tool, a crafter can create decorative borders on pages or photos. In fact, a scrapper may not feel the need to use this tool until such time as a newspaper article is inserted or posted on a page. Without the use of a scrapbooking tool, the item can seem lifeless and boring and really can’t be inserted as a whole if it is very long, nor can it be cut off after a few paragraphs, because it presents itself as if the entire article is being posted.

However, with the slightest search, a scrapbook creator can find a scrapbooking tool, such as a pair of scissors, that will simulate a border that appears to have been “ripped” from the newspaper. This way a section of an article (or slightly more than the headline) can be included on the page, with the clear indication that there was more to the piece.

If otherwise looking to dress up a page or picture backgrounds, another scrapbooking tool (a simple scalloped edge scissor), or one that offers a squared off edge is also fun to play with. Scissors sets can be found as low as $10 for sets of 12 pairs online and even less at retail or discount houses. While some scrapbook creators focus on content, others focus on the design of the pages. These scrappers enjoy the variety of edge cutters and borders to enhance their pages and photos.

Accessories

Once the scissors have been explored and mastered, another scrapbooking tool of rather major importance is a miniature paper cutter. Similar to larger varieties found in schools (the ones we were always instructed to watch our fingers with) the smaller version is approximately the size of a large softbound book. It is ideal for trimming small pieces of paper with even edges, whether for matting photos or trimming larger pages. With a paper cutter and a supply of scissors, there is very little a scrapbooker can’t accomplish, at least while learning the craft.

If you have a stack of Disneyland photos or your a Mickey Mouse fan, you’ll love these Mickey Mouse and Disney scrapbooking ideas. It’s easy just to use pre-made Disney stickers and papers, but you’ll want to make your scrapbooking pages more unique and original.

When thinking about Mickey Mouse and Disney scrapbooking ideas, start by choosing your focal point for your scrapbooking layout. If you start with your embellishments first, your main subject may be overshadowed by them.

It might also feel as if you just put your embellishments on your page without really thinking about how they’ll add to the subject rather than the other way around. The best Mickey Mouse and Disney scrapbooking ideas are those that are really going to let the main subject shine on the page rather than look like a jumbled mess.

The best Mickey Mouse and Disney pages are well-thought out and organized. Resist the urge to put too many Disney-themed accents on your page, and leave plenty of white space.

Choose a few select accessories and embellishments to use. You may also consider doing additional pages rather than the one or two you had planned. And think of how you can make these unique and original. For instance, use two half-circles in one corner of the page to mimic Mickey’s ears. Or draw a roller coaster in the middle of your page and have your wording follow its curving lines.

It’s easy to make simple Disney-themed scrapbooking accents. It’s much more cost effective than buying pre-made embellishments.

Mickey Mouse and Disney scrapbooking ideas can also get very creative. You might take a picture of your baby and draw Mickey ears over his head.

You can place a sticker of Mickey Mouse right into a photo and make it look like he is right there with you. Take an outline or large sticker of the state of Florida or California and use it as your page background.

Making Disney-themed scrapbooking page layouts is only limited by your creativity and imagination.

by Christine Perry

Does it seem like only yesterday that your child started kindergarten? Now he’s graduating from high school and will soon start college in the fall. It’s important to document your child’s high school years in a special graduation scrapbook.

You may already have a school scrapbooking album for your child, but high school graduation memories can fill an entire scrapbook. Dedicate one album for this special occasion. It doesn’t need to be a large album, but one that can accommodate professional portraits might be important if you plan to include the sittings for senior pictures.

The summer before your child senior year of high school, he will usually sit for senior portraits. Those special pictures should have a page in a graduation album.

There’s so much to include in a graduation scrapbook. Reserve one copy of your child’s graduation announcement and showcase it on a page. Following that page, include cards and letters from family and friends, especially ones with graduation advice. You might even include a letter from you with a personal message to the graduate. Write your hopes and dreams for their future along with advice you wish you would have been given on graduation day.

If your child is receiving a special award or honor at the graduation ceremony, be sure to design a page to highlight this accomplishment. Once the graduation is over, either include the original certificate in the album or make a copy.

Is your child giving a speech at the graduation ceremony? Take some pictures of your child preparing and practicing for the speech. Save his notes, including drafts, and use them on a page layout.

Newspapers often cover graduations. Clip articles from your local paper for a graduation scrapbook page. If you or another family member have placed a congratulations newspaper ad for your graduate, make a photocopy of it to preserve it in the album. Newspaper articles tend to fade over time, and copies will last longer.

Before the celebration even starts, make a list of the photo opportunities you don’t want to miss. Photographs of your graduate with family, teachers and friends are as important as pictures of the actual ceremony.

Don’t forget high school mementos, such as, the program from the graduation ceremony. Save at least two copies to use on a graduation scrapbook page Ser you can show both the cover and the inside of the program.

Send a camera with your graduate to any graduation parties. Then you’ll have a lot of candid shots of your child with his friends. Try to exchange photos with his friends too. Sharing photos will give you a lot more options for your scrapbook graduation pages.

You’ll definitely want to scrapbook a copy of your graduates final report card or high school transcript. On the opposite page layout scrapbook a copy of the acceptance letter for the college your child plans to attend.

The final closing page to the graduation scrapbook could be a photograph of him leaving for college. You might also choose to include a picture of his first day of kindergarten alongside a graduation picture.

A graduation scrapbook will become a family heirloom. You don’t need to make it complicated. The most important part of a graduation scrapbook is to preserve and document your graduate’s special day.

Scrapbooking has gained so much popularity over the years and we can see the proof in the number of places where materials for scrapbooking pages are available. They are no longer solely found in just arts and craft stores. National chains like Target and Meijer have an aisle or two dedicated to this popular hobby.

However, there are still some myths surrounding scrapbooking which serve as obstacles for more people wanting to preserve their cherished memories. Here we try to bust those myths so that you too can join the millions of Americans who find joy in preserving their pictures in a creative manner.

Myth 1: Making Scrapbooking Pages is an Expensive Hobby

You need not break the bank in pursuing scrapbooking because just like any other hobby, there are many ways you can save money and still create scrapbooking pages worth preserving forever. You do not need to buy all the fancy embellishments and expensive supplies all at once. Experiment with patterned paper (usually 25 cents a page), a fancy-edged scissor (usually $2) and let your creative juices flow.

Stores like the Dollar Tree have begun stocking scrapbook supplies and you can usually find a good variety for only a buck each. Specialty scrapbook supply stores have clearance sections, weekly coupons in the newspaper and special offers if you sign up for their free mailing lists.

You could also pool resources like punches, rubber stamps and stencils with friends who share your interests or use them for free at stores like Archivers where you can use their die cut machine and other supplies if you buy the paper form them.

Myth 2: Scrapbooking is only for the Artistically Inclined

If you feel that you can not draw or sketch and hence would not be a good scrapbooker, you are wrong. With the wide array of pre-packages scrapbooking kits available these days, anyone can enjoy this hobby. You can use scrapbooking software if you are computer savvy or just crop your pictures and paste them any way you wish.

If you feel your handwriting is not perfect, use rub-on letters, stickers, foam stamps, stencils or just print a fancy font from your computer.

Myth 3: Creating Scrapbooking Pages is a Time Consuming Activity

Making scrapbooking pages is an art that you should enjoy spending your time and money on. It is not an exact science where even the slightest mistake would ruin your experiment. So what if your pictures aren’t perfectly aligned or the colors on your page are not as perfect as the one you saw in a magazine, these are your scrapbooking pages and you are allowed to have fun with them.

You could spend hours trying to replicate what experts have done in magazines, or you could spend that time taking more pictures of your loved ones and have a ball creating more scrapbooking pages.

So don’t let such myths stop you. Start a scrapbook today and see for yourself what all the hoopla is about, you’ll love it.

Memories are what keep us alive and give us hope for a better tomorrow. Scrapbooking is one of those memories that live forever to bring smiles back to people’s faces or allows you to relive a feeling or occasion in all its glory.

What is Scrapbooking?

Scrapbooking is basically a notebook (now you can do it on the computer, as well) in which you record things you want to recollect later on in life. Events such as happy occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, a new home, a new car, or anything that one finds special can be the reason for keeping a scrapbook.

Scrapbooking Page Layout

Now that you are entertaining the idea of a scrapbook, it is important you make those memories as alive and beautiful as possible. Here are some scrapbooking page layout ideas:

* Depending on the occasion, make the page have color coordination – this is especially easy if you are doing this on the computer.
* Pictures – take and record as many as possible, whatever the occasion, and later on you will be glad you did.
* Add as much detail about the subject as possible, even if you think you will remember. Sometimes we forget the smallest things that made an occasion special in the first place, so writing it down is a sure way not to forget it.
* Write some of your personal feelings about the subject/occasion, that will give you great pleasure to recollect after years and years have passed by.

Scrapbooking page layout is something very personal that each one of us will have to choose by ourselves, in the end; however, there are many ideas and examples available in case you run out of scrapbooking page layout ideas.

Whatever way you choose to record your memories, a scrapbooking page layout has to represent you and the ties you have constructed with the memory, so even if there are many ideas, it is what connects you to the memory that will be the right choice.

Take time and create a scrapbook, if you don’t have one already; it is sometimes better then an album and can become a bit of yourself. There have been occasions where people have written books with the data collected in a scrapbook; and there are many things people forget with time. These little books do the job of reminding you of them.

Memories created in a scrapbook live beyond you, to be cherished and enjoyed forever, so don’t just create a scrapbook – put a bit of love and soul in every scrapbooking page layout. You will be happy that you did when you look back in years and live those times again.

Whether you are new to scrapbooking or a veteran to the craft, it is always fun to imagine a scrapbooking layout idea, and watch it come together on your pages. If you are an avid scrapbook artist, then you have, no doubt, come up with ideas that have worked and some that haven’t. Trial and error are necessary processes, because there are many ways to display your photos or memorabilia.

Who Will View

When contemplating a scrapbooking layout idea, you should first determine how many pictures you have; how many will fit comfortably on a page or spread (two pages next to each other); how many pieces of memorabilia you want on the page; how busy the page will be; and who will be viewing the pages. A memory book created for a child’s grandmother in another city or state will have different things on her pages than the scrapbook you make for your home, since you have access to different bits and pieces of information that might only be of interest to the immediate family.

Map It Out

A successful scrapbooking layout idea is one that has been selected from among several others that you’ve considered. Start with a basic color that will draw out some of the subtler colors in your photos, and then choose a “frame” color to either set your pictures on—squarely in the middle or offset to one side. If there is not enough room for another picture on the page, is there room for a sticker, a text, dialog box, frame, or other detailing? If you have a large table (or floor) to set things out, do a few different selections at a time and really choose the scrapbooking layout idea that best fits the need and feel of those photos.

Pros and Cons of Consistency

A scrapbooking layout idea that showcases every page in the same way becomes boring to make, as well as boring to look though. After the first or second page, people will stop seeing the pictures and only see the identical layout on all pages. For example, they will hone in on the blue background with two pink boxes, and it won’t even matter what’s in the pictures, they probably won’t look at them. However, mixing up the scrapbooking layout idea with different photo arrangements, stickers, decorations, and memorabilia not only adds some excitement to the pages, it keeps the people looking and reading, as there is so much going on within the page.

You have the photos, you have the colorful background papers, and you have the creative vision, but somehow your pages don’t have that magazine page look that you’re trying to create. The key is in the layout – professional layout artists study the subject and work with experienced pros before putting those fabulous pages together. Here are some of the ways they accomplish it.

How the Pros Do It

Have you ever noticed that a well-designed page in a magazine or on a web site pulls your attention to the most important element on the page? That’s because the human eye automatically scans a new page in a particular way. The pros know that and place the important elements in one or more of the natural points of interest. It’s easy to use those points of interest in your scrapbooking layout, too.

Divide your page into thirds vertically and horizontally. That means two lines going each way. The four points at which the lines intersect are the point of interest. You’ll notice that none of those points are directly center on the page. If your typical scrapbooking layout is centered only, then you’re making your readers work too hard.

Place the most important element of your page on one of the points of interest. Don’t just center a photo on the intersections, place the important element of the photo on the sweet spot. That could be the subject’s face, a birthday cake, a Christmas present or whatever you want your viewer to focus on. Use one or two interest points per page and design around your important elements. Remember this rule when cropping your photos, too. Get that central subject on one of the points of interest.

Focal Point

When you’re using more than one photo per page, you may find that your scrapbooking layout seems out of balance. Photos taken at different times or with different cameras may seem darker or lighter when put together, while enlargements and close-ups can overwhelm other photos on the same page. Using a focal point can help balance your page.

When a photo is darker than others in a scrapbooking layout, it will overpower the others, so you can balance it out with background colors. Use two colors on the page: one dark and one light. By putting the darker photo on the lighter background, the weight of the picture is balanced. The darker background will make the lighter photos look more important to the eye.

Take a look at the group of photos you’re planning to combine on a page. If your eye goes to a specific photo first, use that one as your focal point. For instance, in a group of pictures of a child, the school portrait will draw your eye over the candid photos. If there is not enough difference between the photos, enlarge the one you want to focus on.

Your scrapbooking layout can have the professional feel if you use the same techniques as the pros.

If you’re the kind of scrapbooker that’s always looking for a new excuse to make a scrapbook, then try a mini theme album. It may be the scrapbooking idea you’ve been waiting for.

Make a Mini Album

How about a 6” square album? You can have several working at once, just devote each one to a specific theme, and add to them as you find the time or inspiration. This scrapbooking idea is perfect for gifts or just to get those photos out of the shoeboxes.

Try one for your mom’s birthday. She’ll love having the photos, and you can put her picture on a background of Paris or Venice or wherever she’s always wanted to go. Embellish with pictures of traditional gifts like candy and flowers and add a limo or a Picasso or whatever gift you wish you could afford. Tie it up with a ribbon and present it with some fanfare. Take a picture of her while she looks through it for the next album.

Simple Pages

The small size of the mini album makes simple pages pop. If you hate over-embellishing or feel that you leave too much white space, this is a great scrapbooking idea for you. The small size also helps make the little things more important. For an album of your daughter’s prom, you can do the journaling on cardstock imitating the card that came with her flowers. A little touch like that would be lost on a large page.

Some special events are difficult to complete. It seems like a silver anniversary celebration, for instance, brings in photos for years. So many people take so many pictures and have so many better things to do than get around to sending you copies. An event can seem to take a lifetime to record. You can take out the mini album and add pages to it whenever those photos arrive, since this is a project that doesn’t have to be completed until it’s truly complete. Is that the scrapbooking idea you’ve been looking for?

The small size of the pages also allows the photos to dictate the layout. A small picture can be embellished and leave room for journaling or a second picture, while a large photo may take only a title. The photos dictate the layout and remain the star of each page.

The album itself doesn’t have to be larger than the size of its page. A good scrapbooking idea is to make mini albums only six to eight pages long. You can easily make enough for gifts, since an album that size can be completed in a couple of hours. How about a mini album for all your family members at Christmas that commemorates last Christmas? Use a patterned background paper, and add solid page that pick up the colors in the pattern; everyone’s album can coordinate, too. Be sure to put the recipient’s name inside the album, since they will be passed around.
