Scrapbooking Your Teenager

There seems to be so many scrapbooking ideas for baby books and school days albums, but very few for scrapbooking teenagers. The teenage years have many firsts for your child. Even though you have to remember your child may not want mom snapping pictures every few minutes, it’s important to document the memories of these years. I have a teenage son, and as I watch the changes in his life right now, I realize they will be gone as quickly as those when he was a baby. I don’t want to miss a single minute of it. Here are some ideas for scrapbooking your teenager. I hope they inspire you to do a page layout of your teenager during your next scrapbooking session.

First Day of High School

Now this is definitely an event that your teen is not going to want you to photograph in front of his friends. You can still capture the moment with a quick shot of him signing up for classes or leaving the house in the morning. We tend to remember the trends of our high school years. Include on your page what is popular for teens right now. My son is a Halo 3 fan, and he loves his Creative Zen and his laptop. Ask him what his favorite music is and favorite movie is right now.

Getting a Driver’s License

This can be as simple as a picture of your child and her driver’s license or a photo of her behind the wheel of the car. Record some of her reactions to the freedom driving brings. For example, now she can go to the mall on her own.

First Job

First jobs are usually not glamorous, but recording your teenager’s first experience with work can include a picture of her in her work uniform. Make a copy of your child’s first paycheck as well.

College Planning

College visitations are important events during the high school years. Take pictures of the places you and your child visited as possible college choices. Ask your teen to write her first impressions of each college.

Dances and Proms

These are great photo opportunities. You might even take your daughter shopping for prom dresses, and snap a picture of each dress she tries on. Be sure to include pictures of your teenager’s friends as they leave for the dance.

Graduation Day

The final chapter of the school years deserves its own album. Take photos of your teenager’s teachers and friends as they prepare for the graduation ceremony, as well as the actual ceremony itself. Send along a camera with your child as he attends graduation parties.

Leaving for College

Scrapbook your teenager as he leaves for college. If you move him into the dorm, be sure to include photos of that as well. Finally, don’t forget your own feelings. Scrapbook a page of your feelings, hopes and dreams for your child as he enters this new stage of his life.
